Can I hide Adult categories?

Yes, you can.

Press menu button on the categories list page --> Open Feedback --> Tap People icon on top right corner --> Scroll to bottom to disable them.

Purposely it is made so tough to locate in the case you want to hide it and then give it to your kids. By turning them off, adult messages get hidden from 'Trending' list & search results as well.
